Whose story gets told when the land remembers everything?
Set in Kenya’s tea highlands, Kikuyu Land follows Mr. Mungai, a local land claimant pursuing justice for land taken from his family. What begins as a personal claim soon reveals a deeper web of historical erasure, as his fight brings him into conflict with a powerful multinational corporation still operating on contested ground.
As Mungai’s case gains momentum, it draws in Bea, a local news producer, whose investigation uncovers buried histories and long-silenced family truths. Their paths expose how the legacy of the empire continues to shape lives in the present.
Running alongside this struggle is the story of Stephen, the son of a tea worker, whose childhood unfolds within the very plantations at the center of the dispute. His daily life makes clear that this history is not in the past but ongoing.
Moving between legal struggle and lived memory, the film traces a community’s determination to reclaim what was lost, and asks what accountability looks like when the past refuses to stay buried.
